It’s the Thursday night before Lisa’s surgery (a lumpectomy of the right breast and lymph node dissection to remove tumors). Mom, Dad, Nat and me (Kelly – Lisa’s sister) are hanging out together. We indulged in and thoroughly enjoyed Fuzzy’s pizza for dinner; it was a beautiful evening so we ate outside – which is a rarity and delight given Houston’s humidity and often oppressive heat. Since being home, the phone has been ringing on and off with well-wishes to Lisa for tomorrow’s surgery. Franki (one of Lisa’s noisiest cats) sits by my side seemingly sensing something is about to happen – for once he is quiet! The plan for tomorrow, Friday, April 6, is that Lisa and Nat will head down to M.D. Anderson’s Mays Clinic for 6:00 a.m. check-in. Because Nat is the only one who can sit with Lisa prior to surgery, Mom, Dad and I will wait for a call from Nat letting us know that Lisa has gone into surgery. Once that happens, we will join Nat in the hospital’s waiting room where we’ll be updated with Lisa’s progress and then see her once she’s in her room after surgery. Thank you to all of you for your support and concern. We’ll be sure to keep you posted through this blog as Lisa moves through this new (and unexpected) chapter of her life. If all goes as planned, Lisa should return home from the hospital Saturday morning after surgery.
